After finishing up with family and kids, I spent the evening decompressing with my very best friend in the world (besides my husband) discussing and exploring the difference between experiencing the world as an emotional being and a physical being. She being the emotional being explaining to me how it was a challenge to keep up with me as I am so clear about an outcome even when the path and the outcome shift given new information that becomes available.
As luck would have it my best friend lives 8 houses away and she walked me home to enjoy the night air and as we walk our street I ask wonderingly what that thing was at the end of the block that looks like a sitting duck in the middle of the street. She comments to me that she has no idea what I was talking about – she sees ‘the lights over to the left and then the shrub thing over to the right.’ And we continue walking – and I say ‘no, not the light, more to the right but not over to the shrubs.’ And a few more steps and she exclaims ‘Oh I see, it’s probably a cat.’
‘No,’ I say, ‘it looks like a duck right there in the light of the street lamp.’ And as we continue a few more steps, I say, ‘Oh, its just a shadow.’ And she exclaims vehemently ‘Oh, no, I can see where it might be a small deer (jokingly) but it’s not a shadow – I have to see what it is.’
‘Oh, no, it’s a shadow,’ I say.
‘No way,’ she says. And we keep walking. ‘I wonder what it is,’ she says, ‘because it’s not a shadow.’
‘Oh, it’s a shadow,’ I say. And we walk some more until we are just a few feet from it.
And she says -’ Oh, I see, it’s just a shadow!’
‘Good grief!’ I exclaim. ‘No kidding!’
That’s the story of my life. I see what exists way before other people do.
She laughed and said, ‘I wonder if that’s what it’s like for other people as they work with you/ experience you.’
Let me tell you: that’s exactly what it feels like from my perspective. I see it way out there and may not be entirely clear on what it is but know it is clearly there. With a little time, we all come to agree that something is there and it is not very long before I become clear about what it is. And then it takes others a bit longer to get to the place where they see it too and believe me.
And so I wonder, what is all this about? and what can I do to help people find their way sooner?
I can see the two of you doing this and I smile and relish the times we have shared doing the same thing. You have an obvious gift my dear friend and I’m thrilled I ‘finally’ started hearing your teaching for they are a true gift. Thank you!
